About Rhinoplasty Surgery

Rhinoplasty, or a nose job, is a surgery designed to reshape or enhance the appearance of the nose. The surgery is also used sometimes to correct the nose’s structure in order to improve breathing. Our board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. G. Robert Meger, is able to alter the size of the nose, improve the profile, and remove obvious depressions or humps appearing on the bridge of the nose. He is also able to improve the tip of a nose that is too upturned or enlarged, modify the size of wide or large nostrils, and eliminate any problems with deviation or asymmetry. Prior to the procedure, Dr. Meger will consult with all of his Phoenix, AZ patients to determine what their goals are and decide on an ideal procedure process for their unique case. Patients can schedule a consult today at G. Robert Meger, M.D. P.C. to discuss their options with Dr. Meger.

Best Candidates

The best candidates for a rhinoplasty:

  • Have cosmetic nose issues they want repaired
  • Have issues breathing because of the shape of their nose
  • Have realistic outcomes
  • Desire a long-term solution
  • Desire a natural look

What to Expect

To minimize any discomfort, a general anesthetic and intravenous sedation are typically first administered. An incision is made, either within the nose or on the outside, across the strip that is located between the nostrils. Once the incision is made, the tissues covering the nose are lifted, allowing Dr. Meger to reshape certain structural components.

In reshaping the nose, pieces of cartilage are normally grafted, either from the nose’s septum or, in some instances, from the ear. If the patient’s septum is deviated, the partition is straightened and any projections within the nose are resized so breathing can be enhanced. Splints or tubes are usually placed to support the healing process.

Anticipated Results

As with any rhinoplasty surgery, there is an extensive recovery process. The patient can expect pain, discomfort, swelling, and bruising after surgery. Pain medication can be used to alleviate the pain. There will be multiple follow-up visits to ensure the patient is healing properly and to ensure there are no complications. For several months following surgery, the patient will notice changes in the nose. Full results can take up to a year to be achieved. Since every case is different, results will vary widely from patient to patient.

A Sleeker Profile

A rhinoplasty can not only improve cosmetic issues in the nose, but it can also correct a deviated septum and other irregularities that constrict the breathing. If you’re considering undergoing a nose job to achieve the shape you’ve always wanted, then we encourage you to schedule a consult at our Phoenix, AZ office with our skilled plastic surgeon. Dr. Meger gives personal attention and treatment to each of his patients.
