Common Causes of Reoperation for Breast Implants
Phoenix surgeons like Dr. Meger do their best to ensure that their patients’ implants last as long as possible but often re operation is necessary. A percentage of patients sometimes need to get additional procedures to correct some common problems.
- Capsular contracture – One of the most common issues is something called “capsular contracture.” Here’s what happens: when Dr. Meger places an implant, the body forms a protective “capsule” of soft scar tissue around the implant. But sometimes, this capsule can start to contract and squeeze the implant. This usually shows up as implants that sit high on the chest and may feel hard and tight. This condition is far less common when implants are placed under the muscle which is Dr Meger’s preferred placement location
- Implant leak – With saline implants, patients can almost immediately tell when there is a saline leak because the implant will deflate.
