Different Types of Breast Implants
Phoenix women have a few different types of breast implants to choose from, and it can be tricky to figure out the differences between each of them. Here’s a quick, helpful guide on the difference between saline, silicone, and gummy bear implants.
- Saline breast implants – The oldest type of breast implant, saline implants have a silicone shell that is usually inserted into the breast pocket first. Then the implants are filled with saline solution. One of the main benefits of saline implants is that they only require a very small incision. However, they tend to have a “rippling” effect on the edges that can be visible on the side of the breast.
- Silicone breast implants – Here’s where it starts to get difficult. Silicone implants are known as “4th generation” implants. Like saline implants, these also have a silicone casing. But instead of being filled with saline, these implants are already filled with a silicone gel. Obviously, these implants require a larger incision since they are pre-filled with the gel.
- Gummy bear breast implants – Phoenix women love this “5th generation” silicone implant because it feels the most natural. Unlike the other two options, this implant is one solid piece of silicone, meaning if it tears, nothing will leak out.
